Let’s discuss hate crime legislation. We need it. That’s as simply as it can be put. Many of you out there who are conservative think that we don’t need this time of legislation, however you are wrong.
Let me explain. Many people think this type of legislation would only cover gays. This is not true. Any crime committed in a discriminatory manner would be covered. Whether the beating of a gay man, the rape of a black woman, or the burning down of a church.
And I’m not just talking about passing this law in one state. It needs to be passed on a national level. This is the only way we can be sure that people who commit hate crimes will receive the prosecution they so deserve.
